Avantus follows a student the whole way. It helps them choose the right subjects in Year 10, projects where they are heading, shows the marks they need in each subject to get there, and gives leadership the analysis to act. It connects to the systems a school already runs, on the data it already holds. No new tests to run, no data to chase, no consultant to wait on.
A school sits on years of results, its RAP and NAPLAN data, and its own in-school marks. But no teacher can work out in their head the mark a student needs in their subject to reach a given ATAR. It depends on scaling, so it depends on every other course the student carries. So schools fly blind on the current cohort, pay consultants to rebuild last year's analysis, and only learn the outcome once the students have left. Avantus closes that gap.
It helps every Year 10 choose subjects that fit their interests and their goal, mapping what they enjoy to real courses and the pathways they open, with scaling in view from day one.
A forward projection for every senior, paired with the exact mark each subject needs to reach the result they are aiming at. The number a school cannot get from NESA, its SIS or RAP.
The scaling and value-added analysis a school pays a consultant to hand-build each year, generated in seconds and scheduled to arrive on its own, after every assessment round and at results time.
Each person sees what they can act on: teachers get the marks in their class, faculty heads see where the top-band results are, leadership sees the whole cohort. One platform, tailored to each role.
The same projection reads at two altitudes. A student sees their own path and the one subject to work on next. A head of school sees the whole cohort and where to direct support first. Same numbers, put in front of whoever can act on them. And it runs every day of the senior years, sharpening as results come in, so the picture is always current and never a snapshot of last year.
Where they are tracking, the goal they are aiming for, and the one topic to work on next, with subjects ordered by how much improvement in each moves the ATAR.

Top-band results projected, the students on the cusp of one, and where attention moves the most, so leadership can put effort where it changes the outcome.

The engine that projects a senior's ATAR also runs backward. In Year 10 a student names where they want to end up, and Avantus works out the subjects that get them there. The rules of your state's senior certificate are built in, so a choice that would not count is never offered. The careers adviser runs it with the student, the parent sees the reasoning, and the student owns the decision.
A student sets the ATAR they want, or the course they want to study, and Avantus shows the subject combinations that reach it. It knows the mark every course actually needs, from every admissions centre in the country, and it pins any prerequisite the course requires. The plan reflects the student's interests and strengths and where the marks scale, not just the highest number.

Not every student is chasing the highest ATAR. A student names a trade, a caring role, a kitchen, and Avantus maps it to the VET framework course and the subjects employers and apprenticeships actually value, whether delivered at school or through TAFE. And an ATAR can still build alongside, so no door closes early.

Projecting a mark forward is a modelling problem, and each state's senior certificate has its own rules. Avantus runs a purpose-built engine that turns raw results into a considered read on where each student is heading, calibrated on your own cohorts going back years so the numbers fit the students you actually teach. It already carries every state's rules and the full course and cut-off data from every admissions centre in the country, and calculates the ATAR the way each state does.
Every new mark flows straight into the engine. No re-import, no waiting on a report. Staff open Avantus the next morning to the current picture, not last term's.
A mark in one subject is not worth the same as a mark in another. The engine works in the currency that decides an ATAR, so a 90 and an 85 are weighed for what they are really worth.
It learns from a school's own results going back years, so the projection reflects how that cohort actually performs, not a state-wide average dropped on top of your students.
It reads each task at the topic level, and knows how that topic is examined. Not “work harder at Chemistry”, but revise this module and practise this style of question.
For every student it works out which subject a bit more effort would move the most, and orders them that way. The result is not a number, it is the next move worth making.
Avantus is built to connect to the platforms schools use to hold marks and assessment results. Today a first school starts with a results export; the direct connections are built and are switched on with each school's IT team. Avantus reads only what it needs to build the projection.
Everything above is a claim about a model. Read the evidence behind it: which model we fit, why we chose it over the alternatives, what our own testing found, and what we do not claim. Published in full, no form.
Avantus began when I sat down with my son to help him pick his HSC subjects. As an aid, I created a spreadsheet that worked backwards from the ATAR he was aiming for, joining the dots right down to the marks he would need, per subject, to achieve that result.
Friends wanted it for their kids. Then schools did. It grew into what Avantus is now: a tool that helps a student see where they are heading and gives a school the same picture across a whole cohort, early enough to make a difference.
We all want our kids to be the best they can be. Avantus can turn that want into reality.

Avantus never tells a student to drop a subject to chase a number. This is not about gaming the ATAR, it is about knowing where every student stands, early enough to help. Capability and interest come first, every time.
Start with a demo. We walk you through the platform end to end, show you the projections and the students worth reaching early, and let the work speak. If it is not right for your school, we will say so.
